Chevy Chase says he is satisfied with who he is and he doesn’t really give a crap what anybody thinks.
Chase spoke out about the claims that he was a jerk while working on NBC’s Saturday Night Live for four seasons and Dan Harmon’s comedy Community for four years in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
He was asked to leave the following season due to disagreements with Harmon over his character’s path, which is an aged multi-millionaire described as a bigot.
“I suppose you’d have to ask them. I’m not giving up a crap!” he exclaimed when asked how he felt when he heard about his former collaborators’ poor working experiences with him.
“I am who I am,” the celebrity said. “And where I’m at is fine with me—or, who I am. It makes no difference to me. And it’s a part of me that I don’t care about.
“No, I’ve thought about it a lot. And I’m not sure what to say to you, buddy. It’s just not important to me. ”
During a particularly fiery debate in 2012 with Harmon about his character Pierce Hawthorne, Chase used the N-word during one of his most notorious rants on set.
While he didn’t mention his Black cast members by name, according to Deadline, the remark sparked tension among the cast.
After being fed extra lines in a scene that made him feel uncomfortable, he snapped and went on a tirade, airing his anger and warning that the way things are going with Pierce, he may be asked to call Troy (Glover) or Shirley (Brown) the N-word.
Chase made a brief appearance in the Season 5 premiere.
