Artists Travis Scott and Drake are in trouble as they have been sued for their alleged involvement in inciting the deadly incident at Astroworld Festival. During the deadly incident, around eight people lost their lives.
Texas attorney Thomas J. Henry filed a legal action against Travis Scott ( Jacques Bermon Webster ) and Drake ( Aubrey Drake Graham ) on Sunday. The complaint also names Live Nation and NRG Stadium.
On behalf of concert attendee Kristian Paredes, 23, from Austin, Texas, the lawsuit is being filed by a lawyer, states The Daily Mail.
According to reports, Paredes filed a complaint seeking more than $1 million in damages following the events at the concert. He got himself seriously injured during the incident.
When Drake appeared on stage at the Astroworld Festival, the crowd surged forward, according to reports.
While officials are still attempting to determine the precise age of one death, they said that other victims were 14, 16, 21, 21, 23, and 27 years old.
Following a “mass casualty situation,” the causes of the fatalities have not been discovered, according to authorities.
The lawsuit, according to Henry, was prompted by the fact that Drake and Scott kept performing while cars attempted to break through the crowd to assist people who had been injured, as well as individuals calling for the show to be stopped.
“Live musical performances are meant to bring about euphoria rather than despair,” said Henry.
Many of these concert-goers had been waiting months for the show, and they deserved a secure atmosphere in which to enjoy themselves and have a good time.
Another concert attendee Manuel Souza filed a separate suit which accuses the event organizers of disregarding the extreme risks and harm posed to concert attendees.
The lawsuit also states the complaints of fans about the show being sold out. It also includes the intention to encourage fans to engage in violent acts.
While the lawsuits appear to be aimed at blaming Scott and Drake for continuing the program after it appeared they were aware that the crowd was in danger, Kylie Jenner, Scott’s long-term partner, released a statement on social media Sunday in which she said he was unaware of how bad things were in the crowd.
Through his Instagram Story, Scott has informed that he tried to take care of attendees in the crowd after noticing people in distress.
