Nicole Kidman’s most recent cover shoot has fans divided, with some social media users perplexed by its “mind-boggling” concept.
On Thursday, Vanity Fair unveiled fresh pictures and a video of Kidman in Miu Miu clothing to kick off the 28th edition of its long-running Hollywood cover issue – which is intended to highlight the finest work in the industry.
“This year’s Hollywood Issue, featuring Academy Award nominee Nicole Kidman, is now available,” the Instagram caption read.
“For decades, Lucille Ball has held the keys to Hollywood, and her latest performance as Lucille Ball earned her a fifth Oscar nomination. Nonetheless, after 40 years in over 80 films and TV shows, Kidman claims she approaches each part as though it were her first time on stage.”
In addition to the main cast, other A-listers who appeared in the special edition include Idris Elba, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Stewart, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Andrew Garfield, and MJ Rodriguez.
However, many individuals on social media were critical of the outfits worn by the Lucille Ball incarnation, which exposed her midriff.
“One of the most prolific actresses (and also most beautiful) and she is depicted as a scantily clothed school girl in 2022,” one person wrote. “Who thought this was a good idea? The mind boggles.”
“While I appreciate your efforts, this totally strange and unexpected appearance leaves me very confused,” wrote another Instagram user. “And not in a good way.”
“Why is this distinguished adult disguised as a schoolgirl?” asked one user. “Is it part of the Metaverse because it doesn’t appear real?” pondered another.
“I’d want to hear the idea behind it… Because I don’t understand it,” a second person suggested, while another observed that the site “flubbed” on the shoot.’
Others, on the other hand, praised her appearance with one person writing, “You look fantastic” on Kidman’s own social media post, which featured her cover shoot.
“Remarkably beautiful,” added another individual. “Spectacular,” said one person.
Vogue UK described one of the new Miu Miu outfits as “rebellious school girl meets elegant teacher,” which debuted during Paris Fashion Week this summer.
Celebrities such as Emily Ratajkowski and Hailey Bieber have recently worn similar styles from the brand, with the latter modeling for Miu Miu’s most recent campaign.
