The Black List has revealed its 2021 list of outstanding unproduced screenplays, several of which may turn into future award-season material.
Since 2005, the Black List has been compiling a list of industry executives’ favorite unproduced screenplays they’ve read in the previous year.
The previous list includes Oscar-winning films like Slumdog Millionaire, Argo, and The King’s Speech.
Again, the great recent results of former Black List screenplays include King Richard (released in 2019), 2021 box office breakout Free Guy, and Promising Young Woman, with the latter winning an Academy Award for outstanding original screenplay this year.
The 2021 list includes tales about prominent people like Kanye West, director Michael Bay, Shania Twain, and “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli.
Daniel Jackson’s Cauliflower, which is ranked #1 on this year’s list, follows an ambitious high school wrestler who is battling a strange infection in his ear that makes him unbeatable in competition while also endangering his mind.
Also amongst the top ten is an account of how Michael Jordan’s deal with Nike gave birth to his eponymous shoe line, titled Air Jordan, and Dennis Rodman’s 48 Hours in Vegas (the narrative is in the title), which has been acquired by Lionsgate with Phil Lord and Chris Miller attached to produce.
