Instagram is bringing back chronological feeds for its users. As per the popular social media platforms, they have already begun testing chronological feeds for selected users. On Wednesday, Instagram head Adam Mosseri tweeted that the company is testing out certain features through which people can get a customized feed.
According to Mosseri, the new update will let people choose what they like to see. Although they are still in the testing phase. Right now, Instagram is testing a bunch of new features. They are testing three views: home, favorite as well as following. In his tweet, Mosseri said that the platform will have three diverse feeds in the coming times.
At the Home feed, users will get to see what they genuinely like from the algorithm’s perspective. The home feed will offer algorithm-sorted posts. On the other hand, the Favorites feed will be somewhat similar to the Following feed yet distinguishable at the same time. As per Instagram head, favorites is going to be a subset feed. The content displayed in the feed is only from creators or even friends that users have marked as favorites. Subsequently, the third and last feed will be Following. Just as the name suggests, here posts from creators whom users follow are shown.
Attached to his tweet, Adam Mosseri also shared a video for more clarity over feed divisions. He remarked that chronological feed is necessary especially for those people who extremely enjoy and follow the latest content or trends. The new Instagram updates will save users from reaping random posts. At present, the company is testing the feed feature and planning to widen its testing audience in the coming days. If things go well then the platform will launch it for everybody by the first half of this year.
Back in 2016, Instagram feeds were shown in chronological order. But the company discontinued the chronological feed and brought the current algorithmic-oriented feed despite backlashes from users. The biggest reason for bringing back the chronological feed is that Instagram wants to make its users happier. The company intends to shift back to its original intent of photo and video sharing.
