Tesla Makes a Shift from Intel to AMD for Model Y Infotainment System

Tesla has made a switch from Intel to AMD for its Model Y Infotainment system. Model Y vehicles manufactured in China will only use a Ryzen APU.

Tesla has made a decision to use AMB instead of Intel chip in its Model Y infotainment system. Currently, it uses the Intel chip in its Tesla Model Y but it will not last for a long time.

As per the reports of Brinkwire, Tesla has announced to switch from an Intel to an AMD Ryzen chip in its Model Y in China only.

This shouldn’t be a surprise, given Tesla’s frequent changes of Intel, Nvidia, and AMD processors. The Model S and Model X already utilize AMD technology, and the Model Y is following suit.

This is only the beginning. With all new Model Y electric cars making the transition eventually, this may simply be a trial phase in China.

At present, the chip shortages going on are definitely affecting the chip sourcing ability of Tesla. So, it is quite logical to imagine a staggered rollout at this instant.

According to Tom’s Hardware, AMD’s switch is most likely due to the higher performance offered. Elon Musk excitedly tells people about the effectiveness of Tesla in playing the latest games.

And he states an AMD Ryzen APU is quite effective in playing famous games such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cuphead, Fallout Shelter, and Cyberpunk 2077.
