The cast of Succession took home the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series award at the 2022 SAG Awards. Celebrity Brian Cox used the platform to back actors, actresses, and another talent in Ukraine and Russia who are resisting the continuing aggression.
“It’s truly, genuinely awful what’s going on. It’s especially horrible in terms of the people who are affected, including our own.”
Cox praised Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, who was previously a comedian and actor, for bringing attention to the trials of artists, critics, actors, and writers in Russia.
“They are told not to talk about it under threat of high treason,” he added. Cox called on the other stars in attendance at the ceremony to express support for both Ukrainian and Russian artists.
“We should all stand together…particularly the artists, I believe we should really join and celebrate them, hoping they can actually make a shift as I also believe they can,” he added.
Brain Cox narrated his message after the starting of the SAG Awards. His message followed a peace message from Leslie Odom Dr. who initiated the show with the company of Hamilton co-stars Lin-Manuel Miranda and Daveed Diggs.
During the night’s event, actors and actresses such as ‘Hacks’‘s Jean Smart and SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher also expressed their support for peace.
The 28th annual SAG Awards were broadcast live on TNT and TBS from The Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday.
