Peacock Media is Developing a Live-Action Television series based on ‘The Ghost Bride’s’ Kai Yu Wu, called ‘Casper’

Casper, a live-action television series, based on 'The Ghost Bride's Kai Yu Wu, is being developed by Peacock.

Peacock is making efforts to develop Casper, a live-action, horror adventurous series. The series focuses on the origin of Casper in the story to lay emphasis on the meaning of being alive.

Casper is a supernatural drama set in high school, written/executive produced by Kai Yu Wu, the Ghost Bride head writer.

When a fresh family moves to the tiny city of Eternal Falls, Casper is drawn into a mystery about dark secrets that have been hidden for over a century.

Casper was developed by Universal Studios, which is owned by the same company as DreamWorks Animation and UCP.

Casper formed as an amiable translucent ghost in a series of Famous Studios animated films that were released between 1945 and 1959. In 1952, Harvey Comics acquired the character for its own series.

Casper has appeared in a number of comic books since then, including five animated TV series, Matty’s Funday Funnies and The New Casper Cartoon Show, as well as the live-action feature Casper produced by Universal Pictures.

In 2001, Classic Media bought Harvey Entertainment. In 2012, DreamWorks Animation acquired Classic Media and subsequently Universal Pictures, which took control of the company in 2016.

As in the 1995 film, which featured Malachi Pearson as the title character, Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman as Casper, the new live-action Casper series will most likely employ computer animation.

Wu is an executive producer on AZNBBGRL, a drama that was just picked up to pilot by Freeform.

She was previously a developer/head writer on another supernatural program, Netflix’s The Ghost Bride, and is co-executive producer of the Disney+ series American Born Chinese.

The Flash and Hannibal, among other series, have writing credits. Underground and UTA are repping Wu.
