On Thursday, the national capital reported about 12,306 new coronavirus cases. In comparison to cases reported last 24 hours ago, this time there was a drop of almost 10.72 percent in covid cases. That’s why the Delhi government is thinking of lifting the weekend curfew since they believe the coronavirus cases are very much restrained.
The cases reported in Delhi may have dropped by significant numbers although the situation of deaths has worsened. In the last 24 hours, the capital reported 43 confirmed deaths. This death count is higher than ever since June last year which cannot be ignored. Currently, there are around 70,000 active Covid cases in Delhi. When the number of cases is detected per 100 tests then the positive chances are a lot more than 20 percent. Without a doubt, these aspects are upsetting.
On the brighter side, out of 70,000 active cases, 53,000 cases are in home isolation. This reduces the burden of Delhi hospitals. The government and healthcare facilities are handling the current surge pretty well and making sure beds are available for patients. Right now, there are about 13,000 beds vacant in the national capital. This implies that hospitals in Delhi can manage even if there’s a massive jump in covid cases.
The Delhi government has been encouraging testing. They are conducting 60,000 to 1,00,000 tests every day as per officials. Unsurprisingly, cases have declined over the past few days. Coronavirus tally, which was 30,000 cases on January 14, has now dropped to fewer than 13,000 yesterday. What was a seven-day average of 23,000 new cases has turned to 16,000 as of now. The Kejriwal government is looking to remove the curfew and has already forwarded the file to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal‘s office. His approval will bring an end to the weekend curfew that people in Delhi see.
A while ago, the Delhi government decided to prevent the virus from spreading through weekend curfew which discourages people from going out from 10 PM Fridays to 5 AM Mondays. Along with the curfew on weekend days, the authorities in the national capital went for odd-even day opening days for shops as well as other commercial establishments.
As for those with businesses, jobs, or offices, they were instructed to opt for a work from home mode. The government guided companies to halt their work from the office for some time and prefer working remotely with a 50 percent attendance instead.
