Donald Trump, former president of the United States has been banned from social media sites, Facebook and Twitter, for posting offensive posts that are said to be the cause of the riots in the Capitol building in America. The democracy of the USA does have a speedy response and thus they banned the ex-president on January 6th and all his accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
It could have been thought that this step would ensure he stops voicing his opinions in the public domain but it seems like he is not planning to pause anytime soon. Recently, he has announced his plans to introduce a social media site where anyone could raise their opinions without any censorship.
The Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) announced the launch of the portal through an email and aims to name it TRUTH. The plan is to roll out the application in the U.S for the first quarter of the year and later, spread it across. The beta version of the application will be available for the users, starting next month.
Why Exactly was Trump Censored?
Donald Trump served the prestigious position of the USA’s 45th President from the year 2017 to 2021. During his term, he visited a lot of countries for improving international relations, India included.
During the elections of January 2021, there was a mob of people fuelled with anger who attacked the U.S Capitol. Trump’s speech is said to ignite the rage of people as he persuaded them to “take back our country”. This was one of the biggest protests that disrupted the election process and peace of the country.
Facebook suspended Trump’s accounts following the incident and the decision is considered as one of Facebook’s most aggressive actions against Trump during his four-year term.
During an interview, the former president said “They(Facebook and Twitter) shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this censoring and silencing, and ultimately, we will win.” Trump was permanently banned beforehand from Twitter for his outrageous comments.
TRUTH – How is that going to be different from other applications?
The platform owned by Trump Media and Technology (TMTG) will be out in November and will offer an equal opportunity to all the people to post whatever they want. “I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech,” says Trump.
It can be said that he is trying to win the free speech battle and with no censorship on the application, it seems they will succeed too. However, it could give rise to various opinions and clashes, and with nobody to govern and control.
