Here’s why AT&T and Verizon are considering delaying the 5G rollout

Both US telecommunication companies, AT&T and Verizon are thinking of halting the launch of 5G in the country. This came after many major airlines along with lawmakers raised an alarm. According to them, the rollout of the 5G network will bring disturbances.

The 5G network is going to be chaotic especially for domestic flights. Many major airlines believe a crisis-like situation may occur if a green flag is given to the 5G. As per an estimate, the launch of 5G may potentially affect around 1.25 million people as well as up to 15,000 flights every year in the US.

These are the estimates that are alarming for not just airlines but the government too. That’s why airlines in America have reached the Biden government to look into the matter. Since refined networks or tech cannot be completely banned from the state, the airlines are hoping for a minimum two miles ban. On Tuesday, the Biden administration tried to broker a settlement between airlines and the telecom companies over the launch of a new 5G network.

This is when AT&T announced the delay in 5G services. That being said, the company is going to make new cell towers around runways. Although not many details regarding towers have not been revealed. The company is planning to work with federal regulators with a mission to settle the conflict.

A while ago, another telecommunications group, Verizon, said that it will launch 5G. However, the company has decided to limit the 5G networks around airports. They also blamed the Federal Aviation Administration for their inability. According to Verizon, the administration is unable to resolve the navigation issue of 5G services near airports and runways even though it is operational in 40 other countries.

After the announcements from telecommunications service providers, President Joe Biden said that the present agreement with AT&T and Verizon is worthwhile. As it will help in avoiding possible devastating disruptions to passengers, cargo operations, as well as economic recovery. In addition to this, it will allow more than 90 percent of wireless tower deployment to occur as scheduled. As for the administration, they are going to continue working on bringing better solutions to the problem. They will keep on working together with both sides until they reach a concrete solution.
