Putin tells Biden that new Ukraine Sanctions may cause a Rupture in Diplomatic Ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin informs Joe Biden that new sanctions on Ukraine would affect the diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has warned his US counterpart Joe Biden that adding new sanctions on Ukraine would result in a total collapse in ties between the two countries.

Vladimir Putin warned the US on Thursday not to impose further sanctions over Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, stating that such measures would be a “gigantic blunder.”

Mr. Biden also announced that the United States and its allies would retaliate immediately to any invasion of Ukraine.

The pair’s second phone call this month, which was requested by Russia, lasted almost an hour. According to Ukrainian officials, more than 100,000 Russian troops were deployed on Ukraine’s eastern border with Russia

With tensions rising in Ukraine, the global community has been on high alert. The buildup has drawn concern from the West, with the US vowing to impose “tough” sanctions on Russia if it attacks Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian government, Russia is planning an invasion of the country. The troops are there for training, according to Russia. It maintains that it has the right to move its forces anywhere on its own territory.

While the two countries exchanged worries during the conversation, Russian foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov stated shortly after that Mr Putin was “pleased” with it. He also described it as “a pleasant backdrop for future discussions.”

A senior US official told that the tone had been “serious and substantive.” “President Biden emphasized that meaningful progress in these discussions can only be achieved through a climate of de-escalation,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said.

U.S. officials and Russian counterparts are scheduled to meet in person in Geneva next month, the White House said, and Mr Biden urged his Russian counterpart to seek a political settlement.
