On the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti, India’s ministry of Ayush organized a first-ever ‘Surya Namaskar for vitality’ program on a global scale. According to the Ayush ministry, it’s great for people to indulge in yoga activities especially in these times when Omicron is on the rise.
Sun is an incredible source of vitamin D which is helpful for better health. Exposure to the sun energizes not only the mind but the body too. Surya Namaskar is a specific yoga where one salutes the sun while the sun nourishes the body with its rays. That’s why the Ayush ministry emphasized participating in the event.
More than 7.5 million people around the world performed Surya Namaskar on Friday. From yoga masters to yoga enthusiasts, took part in the program. The Surya Namaskar for vitality’ program was itself a part of the central government’s ‘Azadi Ka Amrit’ initiative. The ministry of Ayush took steps to make the program possible virtually. Sarbananda Sonowal who’s Union Minister of Ayush addressed the people participating in the program.
She mentioned that Surya Namaskar is a combination of 8 asanas which appear like worship. The asana helps in improving not just physical but also mental health at the same time. Under Prime Minister Modi’s supervision, Surya Namaskar or yoga, in general, are being promoted with the sole purpose to assist people in achieving wellness.
On the Makar Sankranti, it is believed that it’s the day when the sun enters the zodiac sign of Makar or Capricorn. This day has been marked as the beginning of longer days and the ending of winters by the Hindu calendar. There can be no better day for the program since it’s a festival where the deity of the Sun is being worshiped.
Munjapara Mahendrabhai who’s the Union Minister of State told the media that Surya Namaskar has been studied and researched. Till now, it is evident that the Surya Namaskar also known as Sun Salutation is beneficial for everybody.
