YouTube bans 19 channels worldwide over posting anti-India content  

With Republic Day around the corner, India gets a tremendous win on a global scale. Lately, the Indian government banned 35 Pakistan-based YouTube channels along with 2 websites that were endorsing anti-India propaganda. The government also banned multiple accounts for the same reason on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. 

Soon after this step, many nations came forward in support of India. Not just nations but even the video-sharing giant YouTube as well. YouTube is known for its rigorous community guidelines. The online video-sharing platform maintains its decorum by not letting channels promote any hate or violence. It often bans channels whenever they cross their guidelines. This time around, YouTube has banned about 19 channels for the exact reason. 

According to the social media giant YouTube, these channels were promoting anti-India content among the audience. Since the platform is against all kinds of hate spread, it was necessary to put an end to the 19 channels. With YouTube’s recent strike on channels involved in anti-India propaganda, the Indian government hopes that the channels banned by the government will receive the same fate. 

By the end of December 2021, the Modi government or to be more specific, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting decided to ban 20 channels on YouTube because they were spreading fake news against India. As per the government, most of these channels were based in Pakistan. Right now, the government has banned furthermore 35 channels as well as two websites. 

With the current endeavor of YouTube, many anti-India channels are worried about getting banned on the platform. That’s why they have started to clean their channels by taking down their bitter content. Moreover, the actions by the government of India have shaken the minds behind the hate promoting channels.   

Around 40 channels are already under suspicion and supervision. Their content is frequently seen and often recorded by the authorities so that further actions can be taken. The sources suggest that YouTube and India’s ministry of Information and Broadcasting are already in talks. It is very likely for more such channels to get a permanent ban on the social media platform in the coming days.
