Makoto Shinkai, the director of the super hit anime films Your Name and Weathering With You is all set to make a return with a brand new film. Shinkai is one of the most well-known artists in Japan. Due to his incredible storytelling, many also see him as the next Hayao Miyazaki of the anime industry.
The renowned director doesn’t want to dishearten his fans, especially in the pandemic. So, he announced his new movie along with key visual art on Wednesday over Twitter. As per the latest announcement, his new film is scheduled to hit theaters around fall in Japan next year. The movie has been titled Suzume no Tojimari which translates into Suzume Locking Up The Doors in English. Apart from the movie title, he also talked about the premise while showing the poster for the upcoming film.
The story is centered around a young girl named Suzume who’s in her teens. According to Shinkai, Suzume Locking Up The Doors is a saga of modern adventure where Suzume aka the main character had to fight distinct creatures to survive in a world of calamity. In the beginning, she lives in a quiet and peaceful town located somewhere in the Kyushu region. She had a serene life but everything changes one day when she meets a young man who is in search of a particular door.
The tweet was attached with a poster that showed a door in the middle of ruins and rippling water. It has been dubbed as a door that opens all over the archipelago by Shinkai. It is speculated and somewhat obvious that it’s the same door the traveler is searching for. The mysterious adventure of Suzume begins as she decides to follow him to the mountains where the door exists, all shrouded in ruins as if any catastrophe has struck.
In the end, Shinkai wrote, “It should be a fun movie” in his tweet which certainly depicts his confidence and great expectations for his latest film. At this point, not many details are disclosed about Suzume Locking Up The Doors but fans can surely expect more in the coming days.
