Apple Original Films has committed to Adam McKay and Jennifer Lawrence’s high-profile Bad Blood biopic about Elizabeth Holmes’ rise and fall from grace.
The film, which will star Lawrence as Holmes, the Silicon Valley entrepreneur on trial for fraud, is written, directed and produced by McKay. Lawrence also served as a producer on the film.
Holmes’ story will be told in the film, which will chronicle how she established Theranos, a blood-testing business that made her the youngest self-made female billionaire on record.
The film is based on the book Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist John Carreyrou.
Apple Studios will collaborate with Legendary Pictures on the project, which was first acquired by the studio in 2016.
Lawrence will appear in McKay’s Don’t Look Up, a star-studded dark comedy with Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, and Mark Rylance.
Netflix will release Don’t Look Up in select theaters on Dec. 10, two weeks before it debuts on the streamer on Dec. 23.
Hyperobject Industries, which is run by McKay and Messick, will produce Bad Blood under their Hyperobject Industries banner. The company has a multi-year first-look deal with Apple for scripted features.
Lawrence and Justine Polsky will produce under Excellent Cadaver, with Will Ferrell producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, which is now run by Ferrell and McKay.
