The multi-starrer Ridley Scott film has been getting worldwide attention ever since it was released. However, this time it is for the wrong reason. Looks like the Gucci family isn’t happy with the storyline and depiction of their family. The heirs even threatened to sue the filmmakers over the ‘painful’ portrayal.
The heirs of Aldo Gucci, portrayed by Al Pacino, alleged, “The production of the film did not bother to consult before making the film”, they continued about the makers, “they depicted members of the Gucci family as thugs, ignorant and insensitive to the world around them.”
The heirs also expressed their disappointment over the picturization of the life of the president who made a huge contribution to pave the way for the luxury fashion brand, “This is extremely painful from a human point of view and an insult to the legacy on which the brand is built today.”
One of the second cousins of Maurizio Gucci publicly claimed that the interpretation of the events is far from real life,”We are truly disappointed,” she gave a statement to a leading daily, “I speak on behalf of the family. (The filmmakers) are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system.”
However, Ridley Scott stated that he doesn’t want to ‘engage’ with that before spewing the truth that some of the members of the Gucci family are associated with various criminal acts, he said, “You have to remember that one Gucci was murdered and another (Aldo) went to jail for tax evasion, so you can’t be talking to me about making a profit. As soon as you do that you become part of the public domain.” Ridley also passed a comment on how the company is not inclusive towards women.
Rebuffing the comment, one of the family members stated, “women were in several top positions such as the president of Gucci America, the Head of Global PR & Communication, and a member of the board of directors of Gucci America during the 1980s, when the film is set,” and it continued, “the Gucci family reserve the right to take every initiative (necessary) to protect their name and image and those of their loved ones.”
House of Gucci features Lady Gaga who portrays the role of infamous Patrizia Reggiani, the wife of Maurizio Gucci, who plotted the assisination of her own husband and the head of the luxury brand. Patrizia was termed as the ‘black widow’ by the national media.
Heirs of the Gucci family particularly made objection over victimizing Patrizia, they said, “Despite the fact that she was definitively convicted of having been the instigator of the murder of Maurizio Gucci, depicting Reggiani as a victim who was trying to survive in a masculine and macho corporate culture is even more objectionable.”
On the other hand, Lady Gaga clarified her role and stated, “I did not wish to glorify somebody that would commit murder through the depiction of Reggiani,” she continued that she “pay respect to women throughout history who became experts at survival and the unfortunate consequences of hurt.”
House of Gucci also features, other than Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in pivotal roles, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Salma Hayek, Al Pacino.
