Lily-Rose Depp, Hoyeon, Renate Reinsve and others have been cast in ‘The Governesses’

After directing his debut feature, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Joe Talbot will helm his second film for A24 and the BBC Film.

A24’s period drama film, ‘The Governesses’ will star Lily-Rose Depp, Hoyeon, and Renate Reinsve.

Olivia Gatwood and David Talbot will helm the historical drama from a screenplay they co-wrote based on Anne Serre’s book.

The story follows three misbehaving governesses who disrupt the household they work in, as well as the minds of the young boys under their care.

The outcome also piques the interest of the bohemian couple who employ them, as well as their desire to have a fling.

The Governesses is the second film of Tablot with A24. His feature debut was The Last Black Man in San Francisco which centers around two black San Francisco natives finding it difficult to establish their connection in the constantly changing hometown. The series was bowed at Sundance.

Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe will produce with Rob Richert of Talbot’s Longshot Features and Angus Lamont.

The BBC will co-finance the project, which was originally conceived by the British broadcaster. The film’s worldwide release will be handled by A24. CAA represents Johnny Depp, Hoyeon, and Reinsve.
