Ms. Marvel’s Latest Promo Art Hints at Possible Alteration for the Hero

The latest promotional art for Ms. Marvel hints at a major change in her superpowers. Marvel’s elastic hero has always been a fan favorite ever since her debut in Marvel Comics in 2014.

Back in 2019, Marvel even announced a mini-series starring Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel. The 6 episode series is anticipated around February 2022 on the streaming service Disney+.

Ms. Marvel is also going to play a part in the upcoming Captain Marvel 2 / The Marvels starring Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The Marvels is planned to release as a piece of MCU’s fourth phase on February 17, 2023.

Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan is a Pakistani-American teenager residing in New Jersey. In the comics, she’s an Inhuman who gets her powers from exposure to the Terrigen Bomb, an experiment by the Kree Empire.

The Kree Empire does connect Carol Danvers’s aka Captain Marvel to Ms. Marvel since both of their powers are sourced from the Kree. Kamala’s entry into MCU will also play a greater role in the prologue of the Inhumans / Mutants in the world of Marvel which will be interesting to see.

Ms. Marvel’s original ability is ’embiggening’, also dubbed as ‘shapeshifting’. Her elastic powers are even correlated with Mister Fantastic. However, the recent power change makes it seem more like DC’s Green Lantern.

In the new promo art, Ms. Marvel gets purple energy surrounding her arm instead of a stretchy or bendy arm. This makes many fans wonder if Marvel is planning on making some alterations to her powers or origin story. Meanwhile, some comic fans are already upset with this change.

Although this is not the first time when Marvel has changed something about characters in the Marvel Universe. For instance, in Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Ego, Star Lord’s dad was initially an evil dictator in the comics.

Marvel changed Ego to a celestial who’s a living planet. In the end, fans loved this Marvel modification. However, there were times when fans hated the change and there’s no better example than Civil War where original comics were much more repulsive yet complex than its MCU version. Still, making transitions to a hero’s origin might be a big step for Marvel.

For now, things are not confirmed. It will be wonderful to see how Ms. Marvel’s powers are going to turn out in the upcoming series.
