The live-action Halo television series on Paramount Plus has been renewed for a second season just days before the first season is scheduled to premiere.
The second season will be written and directed by David Wiener (who has worked on programs such as Fear the Walking Dead, Homecoming, and Brave New World), according to a news release.
The name change was confirmed during an investor presentation, where Viacom CBS announced that it would be changing its name to Paramount in order to focus on streaming.
Early renewal for season two may entice wary viewers who recall Netflix’s live-action Cowboy Bebop, which was suddenly called off shortly after the first season aired.
The live-action Halo, which was first announced in 2018 as a Showtime series before becoming a Paramount Plus exclusive, has already gone through a lengthy development phase.
“Showtime Networks CEO David Nevins said the renewal was proof of his company’s faith in the series’ ability to attract and keep viewers. We are delighted to be extending our partnership with the HALO franchise. It’s been an incredible collaboration between Amblin and 343 Industries, and we’re all grateful for the chance to continue it.”
Master Chief is played by Pablo Schreiber of American Gods, Dr. Halsey is portrayed by Natascha McElhone of Californication, and Cortana, Master Chief’s beloved AI assistant, is voiced by Jen Taylor of the Halo games.
The first season of the program will be available on the Paramount Plus streaming service on March 24th, 2022, and you may watch a trailer below.
