Shonda Rhimes, the creator of ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ wrote eight series finales — and every one of them has aired already’

Grey's Anatomy's creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed that she thought of several endings for the ABC medical drama. However, nothing got fitted as a series finale

Meredith Grey’s future is still in the air. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, has previously said that she has thought about many endings for the long-running ABC medical drama — but none have served as a series finale.

“I’ve written the conclusion of that series a good eight times,” Rhimes, 51, told Variety in an interview published Sunday, November 7.

“I was thinking to myself, ‘And that will be the final thing!’” or “’That’ll be the last thing said or done!’ And it’s all already happened. So I give up on that, right?”

Shonda Rhimes has retreated. Several years ago, Rhimes handed the showrunning reins over to executive producer Krista Vernoff so she could focus on other projects.

“Do I have a lot of power on what the end scene is going to be? I’m not sure!” she added.

She, on the other hand, has control over when Grey’s Anatomy comes to an end. Is it true that I have the final word on whether or not the series will continue?

Yes, and I accept responsibility for it when or if everyone gets angry at me.

The exec producer of The Bridgerton will make that call with Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey.

Despite the loss of several main cast members, the program is unlikely to continue without Charmed’s central character.

“We’re on our way there. Shonda and I will make that decision as a team,” Pompeo told Us Weekly in May 2018.

I think one of the most important lessons that this series has taught me, and being on it for so long, is that relationships do change.

They do, however, get bigger. They need effort. It’s no different than any other marriage or friendship. You must put in the time and effort.

“It’s really important to accept others’ flaws, as well as your own. You also have to try and improve yourself and be a better person.

But I believe that everything is worth the time and effort. And things gradually get better.”

The conclusion of Grey’s Anatomy has yet to be announced after three years. Last spring, Pompeo signed on for season 18, and her contract is most likely to be extended once more.

On the Emmy Awards red carpet in September, the Boston native revealed about trying to get away for years.

“I’ve been attempting. It isn’t because I haven’t tried my hardest. My network has great connections, and they have encouraged me to stay for a long time.”
